Anaheim Plumbing & Reverse Osmosis
We all assume the water in our Orange County home is safe to drink but that may not be the case. Bacteria, viruses, and lead are all common dangers that can be found in household drinking water. Fortunately there are water treatment devices that can help ensure safe water for you and your family.
A carbon filter uses a porous cartridge to capture unwanted substances in your drinking water. These include pesticides, herbicides, volatile organic chemicals (VOC), chlorine, trihalomethane (THM), benzene, radon, solvents and many other man-made chemicals. A carbon filter does not generally remove inorganic contaminants that have been disolved or metals such as minerals/salts. A carbon filter can be installed directly to your faucet, under your sink, or entering your home.
A sediment filter uses either a fiber filter or a ceramic filter to remove solid particles from drinking water. The effectiveness of a sediment filter is measured in microns which refer to the size of the particles that the unit will trap. Sediment filters do not remove chemicals from water.
The most comprehensive water treatment device is a Reverse Osmosis filter. Rather than removing impurities from water, it removes water from impurities. In an RO system, water pressure forces the molecules through a semi-permeable membrane. Unlike a filter system however, the membrane seldom needs replacing because some of the untreated water is used to send the removed substances down the drain. Systems are generally priced by flow rate so it is crucial to select an appropriate size for your household.
